Caritas
Caritas International is an international charitable, development and social services organization of 165 Catholic public interest groups. The first member group was established in Freiburg, Germany, on November 9, 1897, and began to receive responses in various countries. Finally, in 1950, Caritas became a member of Caritas groups in thirteen countries. In 2011, he was certified as a church corporation by the Holy See.
Caritas Hong Kong is a charitable organisation of Caritas founded by the Catholic Diocese of Hong Kong in July 1953. It started with relief and rehabilitation services to the poor and the distressed after the Second World War. It nowaday expands to involve social service, education service, medical service, hospitality service and many others. It is led by Board of Management chairman Dominic Chan. For the Hyacinth Project, Caritas Hong Kong ordered vacuum insulation mug as gift to send to the young mothers in the Hyacinth Project. A 3-year funding (April 2013- March 2016), of the Keswick Foundation, has been committed to support the staff salaries and programme costs for “Project Hyacinth (Enrichment Service for Young Mothers)”. The project aims at providing a one-stop supportive service for pregnant teenage mothers. Services include home-based visitation, counselling services, prenatal and postnatal care services, group training on parenting and child rearing, activities for social network building and employment services.
